About me
Welcome to Oihii Nihogo! I’m Maiko, a registered dietitian certified in Japan and Japanese language teacher from Fukuoka, Japan. The site offers a unique approach to learning Japanese through cooking, with my 13 years of experience as a dietitian and 4 years as a Japanese teacher. It features recipes, cooking classes, and articles designed to make learning fun and promote a healthy, environmentally friendly lifestyle. I also shares my tips to start a plant-based diet and its benefits.
The site is particularly beneficial for those interested in making Japanese cuisine, learning the language through cooking, and understanding the connection between food and health.

Lessons
Japanese language lesson through recipe and cooking
This course is designed for those who wish to learn Japanese through Japanese cooking classes. Currently, all lessons are conducted using Zoom, so please download Zoom to your mobile phone or computer before participating.
For beginners and intermediate learners, I recommend a course that combines vocabulary, grammar, and cooking lessons.
For advanced learners, I will have you read a original created recipe beforehand and then join the cooking course. However, if you wish to go over the recipe in advance, I can add a lesson to go over the vocabulary and grammar together before the cooking class.
Day and time of lessons can be discussed individually, so please feel free to contact me first.
日本料理の教室を通して日本語を勉強したい方向けのコースです。現在全てのレッスンはズームを使って行いますので、ご自身の携帯やパソコンにズームをダウンロードしておいてから参加してください。
初級と中級の方には単語、文法、料理のレッスンが一緒になっているコースがオススメです。
上級の方には、独自に作成したレシピを事前に読んでもらって、料理のコースに参加してもらいますが、事前に一緒に読みたい方は、単語と文法を確認するレッスンを追加して一緒に確かめる事ができます。
レッスンの回数や時間は個別に相談いたしますので、まずはぜひ連絡をください。
Japanese cooking lesson in English

General Japanese language lesson *No cooking course
For those who want to take regular Japanese lessons:
- Beginners: I primarily use the Genki textbook and Google Slides that I’ve created. If you have any specific preferences, feel free to discuss them with me.
- Intermediate: I usually use textbooks such as “Tobira” or “Quartet” for intermediate learners. If you have any specific requests, please let me know.
- Advanced: For advanced learners, I focus on improving conversational skills and reading skills to read actual Japanese articles or book. I can also assist you to translate document or email that needed for work.
Days and time lessons can be discussed individually, so please feel free to contact me.
このレッスンは通常の日本語レッスンを受けたい方向けのレッスンです。
初級の方には主にGenkiの教科書と私が作成したGoogleスライドを使っていますが、もし何か希望がある方はご相談ください。
中級の方にはとびらという教科書やカルテットという教科書を使っています。ご自身で何か希望がある方はご相談ください。
上級の方には主に会話力を磨く練習や、仕事で必要な翻訳なども手伝っています。

Recipe
The recipes I introduce include well-known dishes such as sushi, tempura, ramen, and udon, but I mainly focus on Japanese home cooking that supports the health of the Japanese people. As a Japanese person living in America, I can also offer recipes that are a fusion of traditional Japanese cuisine and other countries cuisines, such as Mexican, Italian, American, Chinese, etc. Let’s enjoy cooking together! I’m also looking forward to have many comments to improve this website and recipes.
私が紹介するレシピは世界でよく知られている寿司や、天ぷら、ラーメン、うどん等もありますが、日本人の健康を支えている日本の家庭料理を主に紹介しています。伝統的な和食と世界の料理をかけ合わせたアメリカに住む日本人だからこそ提案できるレシピもありますので、ぜひぜひ一緒に料理を楽しみましょう!そしてたくさんのコメントもお待ちしております。
